Hoegaarden White Beer (Wheat beer)

This Hoegaarden WHITE BEER is a cloudy, light yellowish beer. It has a good strong carbonation and it is surprisingly refreshing IF served the right way (further down about that).
It has a strong foam head that quickly turns into a thin layer of foam covering the surface.
It has a fruity, yeasty smell to it, that actually is surprisingly (I know, I use that word a lot) nice and urges one to take a sip. Big surprise, it tastes like it smells. The slightly dominant taste has a fruity, citrusy character with the yeast adding some interesting flavors to create a nice balance.
I would have expected it to be a bit more "full-bodied" from the looks of it.
It is very refreshing and very suitable for hot days, when you'll want to drink more than a few of them. But beware of how you serve it, or you will have a bad surprise!

How to serve Hoegaarden?

The Hoegaarden Brewery says the best serving temperature is 4°Celsius, but I recon even a little colder does it some good, it is not drinkable if too warm.
The glass itself should be frozen, so put a few of them some hours before drinking time in the freezer, it will keep the beer cold for way longer.
Also, the glass should be the original hexagonal one or if not available a glass with a wide opening and thick glass walls.
Now I know some people are purist bottled beer drinkers but this beer is best served from tap, firstly because of the right temperature, it just does not taste right if too warm, secondly because of the right carbonation level and thirdly because of the right amount of yeast. It needs the yeast!!! If there is not enough yeast, the fruity characters will become too dominant and the same goes for the yeasty flavors the other way around. It just won't be well balanced!
If you serve it from a bottle, make sure you store them upright at about 3° Celsius or in an ice bucket and follow the instruction on the bottle to pour it in correctly.
Do not splash it into the glass to get more foam, that will oxidize your beer and create cardboard flavor.
Try it and if it does not taste great try it again, it is totally worth it.

TIPP: try it with a splash of red syrup, tastes delicious and chicks like it too!!!
